Veronica and her son, 6/9/18

Join us in congratulating Veronica and her son for getting into their own rental today. For over the past year they have been without their own place, and we were happy to pay their security deposit so they could move in. Read Veronica’s story below.

Ok so I have been homeless for about a little over a year now. I once live in a five bedroom house with my kids. There was alot going on around this time and I was under alot of stress trying to support myself and my three children all by my self. I became depressed and started having lots of anxiety so bad that I would have to go to the ER. During this time it just seemed all to much for me to handle. I have two daughters 14 and 15 and i reached out to their father asking him if he could please take them for two weeks so I can have that time to start on the help I need for my anxiety and depression and stress. So he agreed to help for those two weeks. Well he decided to take it to court for temporary but we had a talk about that and he said that he was not going to do that and if he did that he would tell me well he didn’t tell me and he went around and did it went to court so then I received the next morning because he was filing for temporary custody. I couldn’t believe that he did that I was not ready for that and I was still trying to help myself and him doing that just made it so much harder. And I also have a nine-year-old son that was still in the home with me and of course it was devastating to him and I. I was 5 minutes late to court so he got temporary custody cuz I was 5 minutes late. I was in shock cuz I never thought that would happen. So now my income has decreased I no longer get the child support for my daughters every month and my housing monthly rent went up because I was in a five bedroom house with one child I cannot afford to live in that home anymore so I lost it and everything in it. I have nowhere to go I just stayed where I could at a friend’s house, with family here and there hotel room sometimes cuz I felt like a burden on everywhere I stayed. I currently am staying with my friend lily in Stanton and finally got the help I needed with my anxiety stress and depression its a blessing. I also have section 8 housing assistance that is going to help me pay a portion of my monthly rent every month. I just needed assistance with the security deposit cuz I do not have that much money saved up. Finally my daughters will be able to visit me in my own place.- Veronica
