Theresa, her sister, and her daughter, 10/30/15

20151030 Theresas family of 3Today we congratulate Theresa, her daughter and her sister for getting out of their homeless situation and back into permanent housing. Here’s their story in Theresa’s own words:

“My disabled sister, my daughter and I had lived in the same apartment for 11 years. In May of 2015 when I asked about a new lease we were informed that the apartments were no longer accepting Section 8 housing. So the process began for us to find a new place to live, while looking for a new apartment my sister found out that she had to have a total hysterectomy on May 20, 2015. After getting the surgery done the hunt for a place to live was not easy and to top off the fact that every apartment complex I called and most of the landlords that I spoke to were no longer accepting Section 8. After putting in applications for the few apartments that we could find and being told on numerous occasions that we didn’t qualify for the apartments our hopes were fading. On August 9, 2015 we had to move out of our apartment and go to a hotel that we could not afford. After staying there for a few days we became homeless. A friend offered to have us stay with them for a few weeks and they helped us to find a place to stay.”

We were able to help Theresa and her family of 3 get into this new place by paying their security deposit so they could move in.

Theresa, congratulations. We wish you the very best. Sincerely, OTS-HB
