Stephanie and her son, 3/3/18

Today we congratulate Stephanie and her son for ending their homeless situation by getting into a rental of their own. After she called us, we built a budget with her and after she found a rental that she could afford, we were happy to pay their security deposit to their landlord so they could move in. We will soon be providing Stephanie and her son with much needed furniture and household goods so they can turn their rental into a real home. Read her story below:

Dear OTS,

My son and I have been homeless about 2 years now. I lost my two small kids to CFS do to a domestic violence relationship. That breakup made me lose everything, my employer, apartment, car, family members, everything.

The only family member that would let us stay with them is my Auntie. She was on section 8 and her landlord found out that we were there and now my auntie had to move. Since then my son and I have been staying in motels, friends’ houses sometimes, and sleeping in the car. I obtained employment this January 2017 and now was trying to save for an apt. My son has struggled with obtaining stable employment throughout this time. With paying for motel fees, food, gas, it was hard to save money for an apartment

Due to my credit issues, it was quite challenging finding approval for an apartment. I would get my hopes up, to be disappointed in a couple of days. Not many took programs that helped with assistance. Till finally, I found a realtor that accepts bad credit and any program for rental deposit. Now we can live like a normal family.

Thank you so much OTS, Stephanie Gray
