Today we congratulate Kathie for ending her homeless situation by getting into a rental of her own. Kathie has been working with us diligently since last September. She has been homeless for 8 years and most recently has been staying at a women’s shelter for over a year, sharing a room with 9 other women! We built a budget with her to determine the rent she could afford and then when she found a rental in that price range we were happy to help with the security deposit so she could move in. Read her story below:
Dear Huntington beach off the streets,
I am homeless because I lost my job and depression and anxiety set in. I was afraid to leave my house and isolated myself. In 2008 my home was foreclosed on and I had to move out. During the next 8 years I lived with friends occasionally and now I’m in a homeless shelter. I also had to live out of my car for a few months. I have since received mental health care, I am getting help with my life. But still due to only receiving a small amount of income a month, I can not afford the security deposit. It would mean so much to me to have my own apartment. Please help me receive the help I need for the security deposit. Thank for your consideration, Kathryn
Kathie is the 26th person we’ve placed this year and the 336th person we’ve helped since our start up just under 3 years ago.
