A big congratulations go to Cornell, Courtney and their son today for getting into their own home, ending nearly 6 months of being homeless. We were happy to build a budget with them and then help them with their security deposit after they found a rental that met their budget.
My name is Courtney and I am contacting you seeking your assistance. My family and I have been homeless and living in our car since October of 2016. We had to relocate suddenly due to the new diagnosis of my son’s medical condition. We were living in another location but there were no organizations that could meet the special needs for my son. Our new location has a special school for the deaf and hard of hearing that offered my son schooling at his young age of 2 years old. So we dropped everything and made arrangements with a low income based housing complex that told us they had a unit available for us ready to move in. Unfortunately they misinformed us and we were left with no place to live and no jobs.
It was by the grace of God that my husband found a good paying job and we were granted benefits for my son. I searched for some assistance using 211 and they gave me your organizations information. I spoke to a young lady who was so helpful and courteous. It was so refreshing to speak to a sincere person who really wanted to help me. The budget makes so much sense and I have made serious changes in order to stick to it and Never be homeless again. After much research, and rejection, we finally found a place that is willing to give us a chance. The deposit is high due to our very low credit scores. We will have our first month’s rent ready for move-in but we are in dire need of your assistance to finally secure our home. Please consider us for the deposit assistance.
We’ve been living in our car parking it on the street and bathing at a friends house when she doesn’t have to work mornings. There are extra parking spaces outside the gate of my mom’s apartment building. Due to the restrictions of her lease and the lack of space and food she didn’t want to risk losing her voucher to house us but we are allowed to utilize her apartments gated free parking spots when there is one available. Crazy enough we sometimes would park in the future resident parking and now we are almost residents. Isn’t God amazing?! I believe the Word of God that says, “Call those things that be not as though they were”. I would have never thought those words would become true until one day I decided to step out on faith and just apply. Now we’re approved! It’s still so unreal to me. I feel so close to the end of this storm, I can feel it. Our last hurdle is this deposit, we can’t do it on our own. We have no other resource to turn to. Please help us with our portion or whatever is doable for Off The Street.
Thank you, Courtney
