Kelly and Richard, 11/6/19

Please join us in congratulating Kelly and Richard for ending their homeless situation by getting into a rental of their own. We built a budget with them and after they found a rental where they could afford the monthly rent we were happy to pay their security deposit so they could move in. This couple brings our people placed this year to 50 and our grand total since we started OTS in 2014 up to 736. Read their story below:

Where we were living before we became homeless:
we were living at my grandma’s house I was there about 10 years until she passed away and lost the house and we became homeless .The house that my grandma had a reverse mortgage and ended up losing the house because the bank took it away from us. it was awful.

How we became homeless:
We lived in corona with Richard’s grandmother on March 21, 2018 passed away. On April 17, 2019 Richard and Kelly had to vacant the house due to a reverse mortgage done by the bank.

How long we have been homeless:
We have been staying in motels, friends, and some family members and sometimes on the streets. Due to Richard’s illness having a stable home to live in would be much safer.

Where we stayed while we’ve been homeless:
Since April 2019 have been staying in motels, friends, and some family members and sometimes on the streets. Due to Richard’s illness having a stable home to live in would be much safer.

What kind of help we need:
We are both on state assistance. Richard’s disability makes it hard to get a job to help with more income. Deposit for the rental unit is much higher than we can afford.

Where we’ve been staying most recently:
We both stay at the Travel Inn Motel Moreno Valley, CA. Some days we stay with friends or some family members and other days on the street. Having a stable place to live is very important to us because of Richards disability.
