Today we congratulate Deepak for ending his housing situation by getting into his own rental. When Deepak contacted us, we built a budget with him and then he was able to find a rental that he could afford. We were happy to pay his security deposit so he could move in. Read his story below.
Dear OTS,
I am 67 years old, my only source of income is SSI. I have age related health problems including a hip fracture problem which I suffered last year from which I am trying to recover. I am receiving Section 8 rental assistance. Without the section 8 rental assistance I cannot afford to pay my rent. I had received no cause notice to terminate my tenancy from the current landlord. Thereafter I received notice from housing authority to terminate my housing contract with the current landlord. I found a new rental unit to move to which accepts Section 8 renters. The new landlord approved my application. All the paperwork from this landlord has been submitted to the housing authority. The housing authority is in the process of inspecting this new unit. The housing authority has approved the rent amount and is going to inform me my portion of the rent in few days. Except for the electricity and the internet, all utilities will be covered by the new landlord. Housing authority does not pay the security deposit. I do not have the money to pay for the security deposit. I have not found anybody else to help pay the security deposit. I request your organization pay the security deposit so I can move in the new rental unit and avoid becoming homeless. -Deepak
