Renee and Dondre, 9/25/18

Please join us in congratulating Renee and her son Dondre for ending their homeless situation by getting into their own rental today. They have been homeless for 2 years. When they called we built a budget with them (they both have jobs) to determine how much rent they could afford. After they found a rental that fit this budget, we were happy to pay their security deposit so they could move in. Read their story below.

Dear OTS,
My name is Renee and my son’s name is dondre we have been homeless now going on 2 years. we had lost our place due to us renting a room out to people whose company were being very disrespectful and rude and vandalized some vehicles on the property which caused us all to be evicted. at the time I was the only one working so it was hard for me and my son to find a place. when we had to leave I had no one to help me out. both of my parents are deceased so I had no one to turn to. although I had a job and had to make sure I went to work everyday I would park my car on the side street of my job and after a hard night of work I was so exhausted and tired we would just fall asleep in the car. and as of today we still sleep in my car on the side street by my job. I did not have any money saved I was not prepared for this tragedy to happen to me and my son it is been hard and very depressing and degrading being in the situation. having two wash up at parks eat unhealthy food since I have been homeless I have had lots of health problems with my blood pressure due to me not being able to take care of myself right. my feet are constantly swollen. as of January of this year my son is now working a full- time job we have looked for apartments and we’re very honest with Apartments when it comes to credit check. we have lost lots of money doing credit checks due to our eviction because places want to charge us double deposit due to the eviction and we are unable to pay double deposit plus rent. we were saving money recently until our car had broke down and we had to fix it which cause us a setback. then the car broke down again and we had to pay a couple hundred dollars on top of that we just got our car tags for 2019 and to keep Insurance on our car to make sure that we have transportation to make it to work and somewhere to sleep. we are very blessed and honored that you are willing to help us with this program
Thank you, Renee
