Today we helped Angelica and her son end their homeless situation by paying her security deposit so they could move into their own place. Here is her story in her own words:
“Hello my name is Angelica and I have an 18 month old son. I moved to California when I was 19 and left after 6 years to aid my dying mother in Texas. After her passing I lost my way and moved back to California this time I would fall victim to drug and homelessness. I have been homeless for going on 5 years at the moment I am staying with the illumination foundation and a not so pleasant motel but before I came to be with illumination I was with a pregnancy homeless shelter called Casa Teresa and before that I was in rehab. I decided to change the way I was living for the 3 1/2 years that I was homeless when I got pregnant I wanted a better life for my son. Everything that I get goes to paying for the motel that illumination has put me up in. I received Housing through mental health that has insured me on finding permanent housing. I am going through drug court and have been sober for 2 years. I would like to start the next phase of my life but I have ran into a snag with being able to pay for a deposit at the moment I have only enough to cover the motel up until the move in date because I have been looking for months and my money has run dry. I’m a college student and fear that I may go homeless again I don’t receive any help. Thank You, Angelica”
Angelica, we were happy to pay your security deposit today and wish you and your son the very best in your new home. Sincerely, Off The Streets – Huntington Beach.
